    Résumé :
    Positron beams, either polarized or unpolarized, are identified as essential ingredients for the experimental program at the next generation of lepton accelerators. In the context of the Hadronic Physics program at the Jefferson Laboratory (JLab), positron beams are complementary to mandatory tools for the understanding of the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon, both in the elastic and the deep-inelastic regimes.
    A proof-of-principle experiment for a new method to produce polarized posi-trons has recently been performed at JLab. The PEPPo (Polarized Electrons for Polarized Positrons) concept relies on the production of polarized e+ e− pairs from the bremsstrahlung radiation of a longitudinally polarized elec-tron beam. The experiment was performed at the injector of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility at JLab and investigated the polarization transfer of 8.3 MeV/c polarized electrons to positrons produced in varying production target thicknesses. A dedicated new beam-line was constructed to
    produce, collect and transport positrons in the momentum range 3.2 MeV/c to 6.2 MeV/c to a polarized iron target for polarization measurements. This technique validates a new pathway opening a world wide access to polarized positrons.
    This seminar will discuss the physics motivations for polarized positron beams at JLab and measurements of the polarization transfer in the production of polarized positrons induced by polarized electrons. The PEPPo experimental setup and principle of operation will be detailed, and preliminary experimental
    results will be presented.
